I love the Mission folks who scorn the "frat boys & sorority girls" in the "whitebread" Marina and then do the exact same shit with the same attitude but with different clothes while drinking different expensive cocktails at different bars.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10736511.post-38785777730490925402007-12-24T20:31:00.000+11:002007-12-24T20:31:00.000+11:00thank you for addressing the issue of the scarves....thank you for addressing the issue of the scarves. the first time i saw the brightly dyed scarves at Urban Outfitters, i instantly marched out ranting violently to my fiance about the indecency of the place and the co-opting and capitalization of culture and pride of which UO knows nothing. i wore a Keffiyeh for several years in the 90's as a show of solidarity with the PLO. it was, and still is, a very serious issue to me - one that should not be bastardized in violet and green for hipsters and idiots. i no longer even look in the UO window, much less consider shopping in the store. i'm just sorry it took me so long to pull myself out of my bubble of hopeful multi-culturalism-cum-culture-less sub-culture-ism.
and anyone who thinks that the clothing that they wear is not a political statement is sorely mistaken about themselves and the world they live in. each day, we make decisions about how we choose to present ourselves and how we wish to be perceived - much as your anonymous responder chooses to say "fuck you" through his/her clothes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10736511.post-60646973955477075762007-08-27T23:55:00.000+10:002007-08-27T23:55:00.000+10:00Fuck knows I'm deeply confused by it. Looks dreadfully uncomfortable to me.

Such is the way of 'geniuses' I suppose.audreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07323195108685705355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10736511.post-1158019864089339022006-09-12T10:11:00.000+10:002006-09-12T10:11:00.000+10:00Who named them "hipsters" they certainly don't ref...Who named them "hipsters" they certainly don't refer to one another as "hipsters' it's a name given to them by the media or overlookers. These people dress differently and look for the next trend to push the boundries of fashion. It's like a celebration of design. Deeper thought goes into their clothing then slammin on a pair of clarks finest lace ups, BHS trousers and berghaus pull-overs (I'm guessing you people roll along these lines as you strongly frown upon others with a side of creativeness). Maybe some people do find Keffiyeh's strange to wear if you don't live in the middle east, but it's not always about politics and religoun as people adamently associate with it and fashion in general. If your so interested in why people wear such things just think why you don't. Obviously you don't know or care about sub-culture or fashion. So leave it that way. Also I think boring un-original people like your negative selves, are part of the reason "hipsters" dress differently. If it offends you so badly and deeply confuse's you as to why these kids are doing this......it means FUCK YOUAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10736511.post-1148519216410110392006-05-25T11:06:00.000+10:002006-05-25T11:06:00.000+10:00A really, really good post, Mel, I will blog a bit...A really, really good post, Mel, I will blog a bit of discussion in a bit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10736511.post-1147259165041455132006-05-10T21:06:00.000+10:002006-05-10T21:06:00.000+10:00I agree completely in regard to the apolitical nat...I agree completely in regard to the apolitical nature of hipsters, their nihilistic musings (I'm thinking specifically of VICE) constitute nothing but mis-appropriated caricatures. Used by informed artists and writers, notions of abject and excess can of course be quite utopian...there is nothing utopian about hiptster vernacular, it is completely offensive and frankly, smells a little like the kind of arts undergrad who watched Russ Meyer films just for the tits...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
